Kailha's Story

Young black woman with long hair and a black graphic tee smiling

Kailha is a mom to a beautiful baby girl with a baby boy on the way, a lover of all things cosmetology, and a Baltimore native. She has recently been rehoused and sat down with the Mayor's Office of Homeless Services (MOHS) to share her story.

Since the age of 14, Kailha has been living on and off with her mom, until she was kicked out at 17 years old. She quickly learned how to provide for herself by finding a job and buying necessities to live but during this time, Kailha was staying on the couches of family and friends. Relying on other people for a place to sleep wasn’t ideal; she stated “I needed to learn how to ask for help”.

Fortunately, Kailha was referred to the YHDP Promise Housing program at St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) where she received case management, transportation services, employment assistance, baby supplies, and help to obtain vital documents.

Within two months at SVDP, Kailha was rehoused! “Once I had my daughter and got an apartment, I didn’t want to lose it”. Now living in a stable environment, she is focused on finishing classes at community college and simply providing a happy life for her kids and partner. #WelcomeHome Kailha, continue to thrive!

Wish Kailha a warm welcome home on Instagram and Facebook!
