It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Damien Andrew Haussling who was a long-time member of the Continuum of Care (CoC), the CoC Board, the Homeless Response System (HRS) Committee, co-founder of the Baltimore Furniture Bank, and dear friend to many.

As a person with lived experience of homelessness, Haussling dedicated his life to advocating for people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

  • Aided in the coordination of the Baltimore Area Faces of Homelessness Speakers’ Bureau
  • Active member of Housing Our Neighbors (HON)
  • Active member of B'more Housing for All
  • Awarded the 2019 Open Society Institute Community Fellowship
  • Founder of Word on the Street, a Baltimore street newspaper
  • Active member of Baltimore’s Voices of Homelessness, speaking to dozens of religious, educational, and activist organizations
  • Co-founder of the Baltimore Furniture Bank which provides free furniture to individuals and families in need, including people exiting homelessness
  • Public speaker at University of Maryland School of Social Work, Loyola University Maryland, and other organizations, educating hundreds of people concerning the etiology, phenomenology, and eschatology of homelessness

Haussling was a loyal friend, pop music fanatic, avid chess player, and family man. He will be remembered for his impact in the community, his willingness and dedication to serve, and his many significant efforts in the fight to end homelessness in Baltimore City.

The Baltimore Furniture Bank is holding a celebration of life service on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at St. Vincent de Paul Church (120 N. Front Street, Baltimore, MD 21202) from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.


The Baltimore Furniture Bank was his dream. He died after making it reality.
